What is WildFire Local?

It is a monthly opportunity for young people to get involved in mission and service in their local community. It is a chance for them to put faith into action as part of a year-round lifestyle. KKi currently oversee 3 WildFire local teams in 3 locations: Nuneaton, London and Harpenden.

Who is it for?

Young people from 10 to 18 can get involved, as well as whole families and adults with a desire for discipleship and mission.

The age band is broad because part of what we are about is linking the generations – going together on adventures with God.

WildFire local is interdenominational. Part of the joy of our monthly gatherings is the mixture of churches represented, and the mixture of churches we serve and bless. Young people are so encouraged to meet and minister with others their age, from the same locality, who love Jesus too.

What happens on a WildFire weekend?

A WF weekend usually starts at around 10am on Saturday, and finishes mid-afternoon on Sunday, with a sleep-over on Saturday night. There are a number of ingredients to a typical WildFire: teaching, worship, prayer, team building, creative workshops, outreach, food, fun and not much sleep!

What kinds of outreach are involved?

Practical service, for example car washing, painting and decorating and litter picking. Creative arts, for example drama, dance, music, clowning and walk-about circus on the streets for a Christmas festival in Nuneaton, and a HOPE 08 festival in Liverpool. We also minister in local churches on Sunday mornings.

How is WildFire staffed?

WildFire Local is coordinated by the KKi England team in partnership with YWAM staff, parents and other members of local churches. There is generally a ratio of 3:1 young people to staff. In Harpenden and London, YWAM staff have more of a coordinating role. All Staff have to go through an application process, supply references and are CRB checked.

What is the vision?

We recognise the need and hear Jesus’ call to “GO” into our communities. We also see the transformation that can happen in young people’s lives when they step out to serve others and trust God to help them.

WildFire Local is about discipleship through mission, about deepening and strengthening your relationship with God through making Him known to others.

It’s also about mission being part of your lifestyle year-round, not just for special occasions!
